THE BIG SPLASH |
 |
|
The Annual "Swimarathon" Sponsored Team Marathon |
|
Thornbury Leisure Centre |
|
Friday, Saturday and Sunday March 7 - 9, 2008 |
 |
The 24th annual community swimming event continued the successful
record of the event. Team entry (48) was
lower than the 2007 event, but they still completed over 6,000
sponsored lengths of the Leisure Centre pool. Teams were entered by many local schools, businesses and other
organisations, noisily cheered on by their supporters. The Rotary
team (left) is pictured before they swam! |
|
The teams pledged donations of over £8,500 at the event.
Past experience and cash already received mean that the Club expects
to donate in excess of £10,000 to the
Institute of Cancer Research, the Starlight Children's Foundation, Thornbury Hospital's Ultrasound Machine
appeal,
Arts & Community in Thornbury (ACT) and other local charities and appeals. |
|
President Adrian Dennis, organiser Graham Shrubsole and all the Club
members wish to thank our generous sponsors, the Marlwood
School Steel Band (who played for most of the event and greatly added to the atmosphere) and to all
who took part or supported the event in any way |
 |
The Rotary Swimarathon is generously supported by local companies
Milburys Estate Agent Lettings and Property Management
and
Bathrooms 365, the Bathroom Planners and Furnishers |
