Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2007 |
|
Rotary's Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a
leadership development training programme run by Rotary
Districts and Rotary Clubs for young people all over the world.
Young people in South Gloucestershire aged between 16 and 18 are
eligible for an annual residential course run, on behalf of Rotary,
by professional trainers at the
Dean Field Studies Centre, Lydney, Gloucestershire. |
|
Thornbury Rotary Club was this year delighted to be able to
sponsor Lucy Humphries, Alex Reid and Daniel Williams (pictured
leftt) who, to qualify for the course, had already demonstrated their potential
leadership skills in their involvement in local community work
and sporting activities. |
|
They joined 37 other young people from Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Hereford
on a week-long residential course
focussed on team-work, leadership and self-awareness. |
|
In preparation for the course Lucy, Alex and
Daniel were required to develop some short, medium and long-term
targets against which they could measure their personal development
during the week and in the months to come. |
 |
|
Although exhausted at the end of an extremely demanding week, the three told
President Adrian at the end-of-course barbeque that the course had helped them
understand how to achieve these targets and how to realise their full potential. |
|
They had learnt a lot more about themselves and their capabilities, as well as
making many new friends and having a great deal of fun. |
|
Youth Chairman Allan Taylor and Rotary District Governor Peter
Davey added their congratulations.
We are looking forward to entertaining our three attendees at a Club meeting to hear
about their experience at first hand. |
|
Planning is already in hand for the 2008 RYLA course, and Thornbury Rotary is seeking
suitable candidates for next year’s course. Any young person in the 16-18 age group interested
and who can demonstrate their leadership potential is invited to contact Rotarian Allan Taylor (tel
