Rotary Youth Leadership Award - RYLA
Whether you are a student or have started work, RYLA will provide a memorable, enjoyable and unique opportunity to learn and develop. The course will provide you with the chance to improve your leadership and communication skills through a series of challenging, practical and theoretical tasks. You will be part of a team. You will tackle some exciting, confidence building exercises to enable you to develop your self esteem.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a training programme for leaders and potential leaders between 16 and 18 years of age. As a RYLA participant you will attend a fully sponsored five night course, together with other talented young people, like yourself.
Our local District RYLA course is held at The Dean Field Studies Centre, in The Forest of Dean, at Parkend , Lydney. The center offers a wide range of activities and provides comfortable accommodation, lecture and common rooms and full catering facilities.
Activities will include canoeing, climbing, caving, a rope course, abseiling and orienteering. These physical activities are backed up by theory so that each RYLA participant develops his or her’s leadership and communication skills. You will set your own objectives and your progress will be reviewed throughout the course.
Participants are selected and sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs and Thornbury Rotary Club are waiting to hear from you.
