Hearing Loops in Thornbury
Do you, or does someone you know, have hearing aids? Even with the aids, do you or they have difficulty in hearing accurately or understanding speech in the presence of other noise?
A hearing loop provides an additional signal, detected by T-coils in hearing aids, which assist the understanding of speech. Click here for more information
During February and March 2016, Thornbury Rotary Club, in association with the national charity Hearing Link, surveyed premises in the town under their “Let’s Loop the UK” campaign. A list has been assembled of those premises where useful hearing loops were found.
The Club encourages those with hearing aids equipped with T-coils to make use of these facilities to enhance their communication and understanding of speech. Also, when they have, or anticipate difficulties, to ask if a loop system is available. (we might have missed some!)
Premises equipped with hearing loops display the sign (right) which should include the “T” (or similar).
Leaflets listing effective local hearing loops are available from various shops and premises in the town, including the Town Hall, NHS Audiology Clinic at Thornbury Hospital, and hearing aid dispensaries at Specsavers and Norvilles Opticians. In case you don't know: A hearing loop is a wire loop around a room generating a varying magnetic field, which can be detected by a coil in a hearing aid. This system provides a good clear signal - usally from a microphone - which the hearing aid detects while avoiding interference or confusion with other sounds.
Small "one-to-one" loop system are also used in shops, pharmacies and banks.
